Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 oz soft cheese like brie or camembert
  • 4 oz semi-hard cheese like aged cheddar or gouda
  • 4 oz blue cheese like gorgonzola or stilton
  • 4 oz fresh cheese like goat cheese or mozzarella pearls
  • 4 oz prosciutto, thinly sliced
  • 4 oz salami, sliced into thin rounds
  • 4 oz soppressata or capicola
  • 1/4 cup honey or fig jam
  • 1/4 cup marinated olives
  • 1/4 cup cornichons or pickled vegetables
  • 1/4 cup dried apricots or figs
  • 1/4 cup toasted almonds or walnuts
  • 1/2 cup fresh grapes or sliced apple
  • 1 small baguette, sliced and lightly toasted
  • Optional: gluten-free crackers if needed

Instructions

  1. Take cheeses out of the fridge 30 minutes before serving.
  2. Slice the baguette into 1/2-inch thick slices. Arrange on a baking sheet and toast at 375°F for 5-7 minutes, or until golden. Flip halfway through. Let cool completely.
  3. Prepare the accompaniments: rinse grapes and pat dry; slice apple just before serving (toss with lemon juice to prevent browning); drain olives and pickles. Place each item in its own small bowl.
  4. Slice hard cheeses (cheddar or gouda) into thin triangles or small cubes. Leave soft cheeses like brie whole or cut into wedges. Crumble or chunk blue cheese.
  5. Arrange meats: fold prosciutto into loose ribbons, fan out salami rounds, roll soppressata slices into cylinders.
  6. Assemble the board: place small bowls of accompaniments first, then add cheeses in different spots, leaving space between varieties. Tuck meats around cheeses. Fill gaps with bread slices, nuts, and fruit.
  7. Just before serving, drizzle honey over brie or goat cheese and add a crack of black pepper. Place small spoons or toothpicks near each item.
  8. Serve immediately. Encourage mixing and matching.

Notes

Don’t skip bringing cheese to room temperature for best flavor. Balance textures: creamy, sharp, crunchy, sweet, briny. Slice meat right before serving to prevent drying. Use a ‘cheese first’ approach when arranging. Toast bread to prevent sogginess. Charcuterie is forgiving—substitute ingredients as needed.
