A sweet, smoky, and tangy grilled peach BBQ sauce perfect for chicken or pork, made with simple ingredients and ready in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium fresh peaches, halved and pitted
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Brush the peach halves lightly with olive oil to prevent sticking. Place them cut-side down on the grill and cook for 3-5 minutes until grill marks appear and the peaches soften a bit. Flip and grill the skin side for another 2 minutes. Remove and set aside to cool slightly.
  2. While peaches cool, heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and cook for about 5 minutes until translucent and soft. Stir in the minced garlic and cook another 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  3. Stir in the tomato paste, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Mix well to combine and cook for 2 minutes to meld the flavors.
  4. Cut the grilled peaches into chunks and add them to the saucepan. Pour in 1/4 cup water to loosen the mixture. Use an immersion blender or transfer to a blender and puree until smooth. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit more water, 1 tablespoon at a time, to reach your desired consistency.
  5. Return the pureed sauce to the saucepan and simmer on low heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust salt, sugar, or vinegar as needed.
  6. Let the sauce cool before using it as a glaze or serving. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.

Notes

Do not rush the grilling step to get caramelized peach flavors. Simmering the sauce deepens the flavor and thickens it. If sauce separates when cooled, stir before using. For a gluten-free option, substitute brown sugar with coconut sugar. You can broil peaches if no grill is available.
