Ingredients

  • Fresh vegetables: cucumber slices, cherry tomatoes, celery sticks, mini bell peppers, baby carrots
  • Cheese varieties: mild cheddar cubes, fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini), cream cheese
  • Dips & spreads: classic hummus, guacamole, ranch dressing, yogurt-based herb dip (Greek yogurt, fresh dill, lemon juice)
  • Proteins: sliced turkey or chicken breast deli meat, cooked and cooled shrimp, mini meatballs
  • Fruits: bite-sized watermelon chunks, grapes, fresh strawberries
  • Crunchy extras: whole-grain crackers, pita chips, toasted nuts (almonds or cashews)
  • Seasonings: sea salt, freshly ground black pepper, fresh herbs (parsley, basil, cilantro), olive oil, lemon juice
  • Optional: smoked paprika, chili flakes

Instructions

  1. Prep the Vegetables and Fruits (15 minutes): Rinse all fresh produce under cool water. Slice cucumbers into rounds about 1/4 inch thick. Halve cherry tomatoes and mini bell peppers if large. Cut watermelon and strawberries into bite-sized chunks about 1 inch. Place all in separate bowls or on a platter.
  2. Prepare the Dips (10 minutes): For homemade herb dip, combine 1 cup Greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill, juice of half a lemon, and salt to taste. Stir well and chill until serving. For store-bought dips like hummus or guacamole, transfer to serving bowls and drizzle olive oil or sprinkle paprika on top.
  3. Slice Proteins and Cheese (10 minutes): Cut cheddar into 1-inch cubes. Slice deli meats into bite-sized rolls or strips. Drain mozzarella balls and pat dry. Arrange neatly on a platter with fresh herbs.
  4. Assemble Finger Food Skewers (Optional, 15 minutes): Thread cherry tomatoes, mozzarella balls, and basil leaves onto small skewers or toothpicks.
  5. Arrange Everything on Serving Platters: Spread out veggies, fruits, cheeses, meats, dips, and crackers in sections or colorful patterns.
  6. Final Touches: Sprinkle chopped herbs over dips and platters. Add freshly cracked pepper or a pinch of sea salt. Keep everything chilled until ready to serve.

Notes

Keep dips and veggies chilled until serving to maintain freshness. Prep ingredients ahead but assemble skewers and platters just before guests arrive to avoid sogginess. Use sharp knives for clean cuts. Bring extra toothpicks or small skewers for easy eating. Substitute dairy-free cheese and gluten-free crackers as needed for dietary restrictions.
