These easy fresh Caprese skewers with balsamic glaze are a quick, simple, and crowd-pleasing appetizer featuring cherry tomatoes, mozzarella pearls, fresh basil, and a tangy-sweet balsamic glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 20 cherry or grape tomatoes, washed
  • 20 small fresh mozzarella pearls (bocconcini), drained
  • 20 large fresh basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup balsamic glaze (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 20 bamboo skewers, about 6 inches long (soaked in water for 10 minutes if grilling)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cherry tomatoes under cold water and gently pat dry. Drain the mozzarella pearls thoroughly to avoid excess moisture. Pick fresh basil leaves and gently rinse if needed. Pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the mozzarella pearls and tomatoes. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil, sprinkle with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Toss lightly to coat everything evenly.
  3. Take one bamboo skewer and thread a tomato, then a basil leaf folded in half, followed by a mozzarella pearl, and finish with another tomato. Repeat until all skewers are assembled.
  4. Arrange the skewers on your serving platter. Using a spoon or squeeze bottle, gently drizzle the balsamic glaze over each skewer.
  5. Optional: Sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt or a few twists of black pepper on top just before serving.

Notes

If grilling, soak bamboo skewers in water for 10 minutes to prevent burning. Assemble skewers just before serving to keep basil fresh. Warm balsamic glaze slightly if too thick. For dairy-free option, substitute mozzarella with marinated tofu cubes. Store components separately if preparing ahead to avoid sogginess.
