Crisp apple slices topped with warm, gooey caramel sauce and a variety of crunchy, sweet toppings. This quick and easy dessert comes together in about 10 minutes and is perfect for fall parties, potlucks, or a cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium apples (a mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp works well)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup caramel bits or soft caramels (e.g., Kraft Caramel Bits)
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts, toasted if desired
  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries or raisins (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons shredded coconut (unsweetened or sweetened)
  • Sea salt flakes for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the apples. Core them, then slice into thin rounds or wedges about 1/4 inch thick. Place the slices in a mixing bowl and toss with the lemon juice to prevent browning. Set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the caramel bits, heavy cream, and butter. Stir constantly with a silicone spatula until melted and smooth, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of sea salt if using.
  3. If desired, toast the chopped pecans or walnuts in a dry skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Set aside.
  4. Spread the apple slices in a single layer on a large serving platter, overlapping slightly if needed.
  5. Let the caramel cool for about a minute, then drizzle it generously over the apple slices.
  6. Sprinkle the toasted nuts, mini chocolate chips, dried cranberries, and shredded coconut evenly over the caramel-drizzled apples. Finish with a light sprinkle of sea salt flakes.
  7. Serve immediately while the caramel is still warm and the apples are crisp.

Notes

For best results, serve immediately after assembling. The apples will start to release moisture if they sit too long. You can prep the apple slices and toppings ahead of time, but do not assemble until just before serving. To keep apple slices crisp, store them in a bowl of cold water with a squeeze of lemon juice, then drain and pat dry before arranging.
