A quick and easy dessert combining flaky croissants fried to crispy perfection, coated in cinnamon sugar, and served with a luscious dulce de leche dip. Perfect for indulgent brunches or late-night cravings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large croissants (day-old or slightly stale preferred)
  • 2 cups vegetable oil or canola oil (for frying)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200 g)
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon (15 g)
  • 1 cup dulce de leche (homemade or store-bought)
  • Pinch of sea salt (optional, for salted caramel twist)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
  • Fresh berries or sliced bananas (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Cut each croissant into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5 inches (4 cm) square.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup granulated sugar with 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon and stir until evenly blended.
  3. Pour about 2 cups (480 ml) of vegetable oil into a frying pan and heat over medium heat until oil reaches 350°F (175°C) or bubbles form around a wooden spoon dipped in the oil.
  4. Working in batches, carefully drop croissant pieces into the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally until golden brown and crispy on all sides.
  5. Remove fried croissant bites with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels or a wire rack.
  6. While still warm, toss the croissant pieces in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  7. If desired, whisk a pinch of sea salt into the dulce de leche and transfer to a small serving bowl.
  8. Serve the crispy churro croissants immediately with the dulce de leche dip, optionally dusted with powdered sugar and garnished with fresh fruit.

Notes

Use slightly stale croissants for better frying results. Maintain oil temperature at 350°F (175°C) to avoid greasy or burnt croissants. Toss croissants in cinnamon sugar while warm for best coating. Fry in small batches to keep oil temperature steady. Leftovers can be reheated in a 350°F oven for 5 minutes to restore crispiness. For dairy-free or gluten-free versions, substitute croissants and oil accordingly.
