Ingredients

  • Sharp cheddar cheese, sliced
  • Brie cheese, whole wheel
  • Gouda cheese, aged, sliced into thin wedges
  • Goat cheese log
  • Prosciutto, thinly sliced
  • Salami, genoa style, sliced
  • Turkey breast, smoked and sliced
  • Red grapes, seedless
  • Apple slices, honeycrisp or fuji
  • Dried figs or apricots
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs
  • Pomegranate seeds
  • Water crackers
  • Rosemary and olive oil crackers
  • Baguette slices, toasted
  • Honey
  • Whole grain mustard
  • Cranberry chutney or whole berry cranberry sauce
  • Toasted pecans or walnuts
  • Marinated olives, mixed varieties
  • Cornichons or pickled vegetables (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start with the bowls (2 minutes): Place small bowls or ramekins on the board for cranberry chutney, honey, olives, and whole grain mustard. Position them at different spots around the board.
  2. Add the cheeses (3 minutes): Place the brie wheel whole. Cut sharp cheddar into thin triangles or cubes and arrange in a small cluster. Slice aged gouda into thin wedges and fan them out. Place the goat cheese log in a spot where it can be easily spread.
  3. Layer in the meats (3 minutes): Fold prosciutto slices into loose ribbons or wave shapes and place in a small pile. Arrange salami slices in a slight overlap. Fan out smoked turkey slices in another area.
  4. Fill in with fruits and vegetables (4 minutes): Tuck clusters of red grapes into gaps. Arrange apple slices in a fan pattern (sprinkle with lemon juice to prevent browning). Place dried figs or apricots in small groupings. Scatter pomegranate seeds over the board.
  5. Add crackers and bread (3 minutes): Arrange water crackers and rosemary crackers in small stacks or overlapping rows around the edges. Place toasted baguette slices in a separate cluster.
  6. Finish with nuts, garnishes, and spreads (3 minutes): Sprinkle toasted pecans or walnuts in remaining gaps. Tuck fresh rosemary sprigs here and there. Ensure bowls are filled and accessible with small spoons.
  7. Final check and serve (2 minutes): Step back and look at the board. Fill any large empty spaces with extra grapes, nuts, or crackers. Serve immediately at room temperature.

Notes

For best flavor, let cheeses come to room temperature (about 30 minutes) before assembling. If preparing ahead, cover loosely with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 2 hours; remove 20 minutes before serving. Slice apples just before serving or toss with lemon juice to prevent browning. For a vegetarian version, skip meats and double up on cheeses and vegetables. For gluten-free, use gluten-free crackers, rice cakes, or cucumber rounds.
