A refreshing and budget-friendly watermelon lemonade recipe perfect for summer gatherings, made with fresh watermelon, lemon juice, sugar, and water. Easy to prepare and serves a crowd.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups cubed seedless watermelon (about 1 small watermelon or half a medium one)
  • 4 large lemons, juiced (about 1 cup/240 ml)
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar (65 g)
  • 4 cups cold water (950 ml)
  • Ice cubes (optional, for serving)
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cut about 6 cups (900 g) of seedless watermelon into medium chunks and remove any seeds if necessary.
  2. Place the watermelon chunks into a blender and puree until smooth, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Pour the blended watermelon through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pitcher, pressing the pulp to extract as much juice as possible.
  4. Squeeze 4 large lemons to get about 1 cup (240 ml) of fresh lemon juice, straining out seeds if needed.
  5. Add the lemon juice and ⅓ cup (65 g) sugar to the watermelon juice and stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
  6. Pour in 4 cups (950 ml) of cold water and stir to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness if needed.
  7. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill and meld flavors.
  8. Serve over ice cubes and garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.

Notes

For a fizzy twist, replace half the water with sparkling water just before serving. Adjust sugar and lemon juice to taste. Use frozen watermelon if fresh is unavailable, thaw before blending. Straining is optional but recommended for smooth texture. Store refrigerated up to 48 hours and stir before serving.
