These easy homemade peanut butter banana dog treats are quick to make with simple, wholesome ingredients and are perfect for spoiling your pup with a healthy snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup all-natural, unsweetened peanut butter (no xylitol or added salt)
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour (or almond/oat flour for gluten-free)
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 24 tablespoons water or unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mash the bananas thoroughly using a fork or potato masher until smooth with some small lumps.
  3. Mix the peanut butter and egg into the mashed bananas until combined and smooth.
  4. Add the rolled oats, whole wheat flour, and cinnamon (if using). Stir until the mixture thickens into a dough. Add water or almond milk one tablespoon at a time if the dough is too dry, until moldable but not sticky.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll it out to about 1/4-inch (6 mm) thickness. If no rolling pin, pat it evenly with your hands.
  6. Cut the dough into shapes or squares using cookie cutters or a knife.
  7. Place the cut treats on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each treat.
  8. Bake for 15-18 minutes until edges are golden but centers remain soft. For crunchier treats, bake a few minutes longer but watch closely.
  9. Cool completely on a wire rack before handling to allow treats to firm up.
  10. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week or freeze for longer storage.

Notes

Use ripe bananas for natural sweetness and better texture. Avoid peanut butter with xylitol or added salt as it is toxic to dogs. Do not overbake to keep treats soft enough for older teeth. Adjust liquid carefully to get the right dough consistency. Let treats cool completely before storing or serving. For gluten-free, substitute whole wheat flour with almond or oat flour. Egg can be replaced with a flax egg for an egg-free version.
